Tell me how a $35,000 covered motorcycle will gain traction in the marketplace?
And how will the VLC (the silver car) become a common sight if the company has no plans to mass produce it?
Do the interior shots (at 0:55) look like the fittings of a production-intent vehicle or a kit car that is not for sale to the public?

This video is nice, but the reality is that we’ll never see any of these car on the road.

The more things you keep adding to it, The more things there are to be broken, pay more for a covered motorcycle, then keep paying more money for repairs. Just more things to go wrong. I think its stupid.

I wholly agree, but the Xprize was to promote vehicles that would be sold to the public, not ‘concepts’ and ‘ideas’.
What happened was a company (Aptera) did the unthinkable, they showed up with a car that was all but production ready. The ‘dynamic’ (read changing) rules kept them from succeeding and the Aptera team was sent home without a single penny.
Odd.
The team with NO PRODUCTION PLANS wins while the team closest to putting a real car on the road leaves empty handed.
Hmmm….

Rules for the next X-prize for cars should be as follows “Do not build it if its never going to be a mass production car or if you only building a concept”

That damn VLC stole Aptera place THEY (Aptera) actually have plans to BULD them. And that 10 Million would of really helped with the production line.

@GANTZ100pts nah aptera lost on their own. version 2 was much worse than the first. new leadership were either idiots and/or intentionally making it fail. the first aptera would have won on the merits.

but I agree there should be a criteria that the design must have some reasonable usability like shoulder space and vehicle strength such that the shell eco marathon racers couln’t win. the edison2 might be a bit too tight for side by side seating and for that it shouldn’t be able to win.
